HOW DID YOU IDENTIFY YOUR PASSION AND THE WORK THAT SATISFIED YOU VERSUS WORK THAT JUST PAID THE BILLS?
Hmmm, I had to answer this question last, because it took the most thought. I identified my passion by remembering how creative I used to be during my primary and secondary school life. Even after leaving school I continued being creative, I always loved reading and writing things down, this brought me joy, and still does. It is the path of least resistance. I believe getting into my 40’s gave me more knowledge of how things always work out, so I just ran with it, and started putting more energy and investment into my social media platform and blog. I still have a regular job, but I aspire to do my blogging and creative writing as a full time thing…very soon.

WHO WILL ETERNALLY BE A WOMAN YOU ADMIRE AND RESPECT, AND WHY?
A woman whom I admire and respect is my foster mother.
Why: Because she accepted me into her home and her life, allowed me to be who I needed to be,cared for me as a mother should without asking for anything in return, she taught me unconditional love, so my love and respect for her as a woman is ETERNAL!! (May she sleep in peace).

IN LIGHT OF YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF OUR HASHTAG #WHYITRIBE, WHY DO YOU THINK IT IS IMPORTANT TO CELEBRATE WHO WE ALREADY ARE TODAY?
I believe it is important to celebrate, period, society makes us feel like we are having too much fun, I say celebrate whenever you feel the urge to, as we have no crystal ball when it can all end. This will set an example to those looking on, and it will become the norm for generations of women to come, long after we have passed on.

NAME A TIME RECENTLY WHEN YOU SAID SOMETHING GOOD ABOUT YOURSELF/HOW DID THAT MAKE YOU FEEL?
LOL, recently I had to remind myself of my 2020 mantra I set back in December 2019, ‘’Lisa you need to remember who the fuck you are’’ and then I laughed so hard, it revived my thoughts and breathe life back into me, as I was having a hard time getting past a few obstacles.

WHY DO YOU THINK WOMEN SHY AWAY FROM CELEBRATING OR PRAISING THEMSELVES SO MUCH?
From my response before, I believe women shy away from celebrating or praising because it seems they are having too much fun, and also society sees it as bragging or showing off, only when women do it.

HOW DO YOU OVERCOME THE TENDENCY TO DISCREDIT COMPLIMENTS YOU ARE GIVEN?
This is not an issue I resonate with, as I enjoy receiving and giving compliments to other women.

WHO WAS THE FIRST FEMALE TO TEACH YOU OR INSPIRE YOU TO FEEL THAT #YOUAREENOUGH?
The first female to teach and inspire me to feel I am enough was my foster mom.

HOW DOES SOCIETY REINFORCE THE IDEA THAT WE, AS WOMEN, ARE NOT ENOUGH AND HOW CAN WE TAKE THAT POWER BACK?
Society reinforces the idea that women are not enough through media and advertising, we are usually supporting men in these examples. I think we are already reclaiming our power, by forming female run companies and having women as head of different departments, and of course, through platforms such as this one.

ARE WE TOLD ENOUGH AS YOUNG GIRLS THAT #WEAREENOUGH? IF NOT, HOW CAN WE CHANGE THIS MESSAGING FOR YOUNG GIRLS TODAY?
I think it depends on where we grow up, in what household, I think it’s changed tremendously though, I’ve seen fathers encouraging their daughters on social media to repeat affirmations and so on. I recently noticed a little girl with her mom in a hair shop, and she was talking about the cost of an item, so I smiled at her and asked her a math problem, she got the answer correct, so I air high-fived her and told her she was so smart, so I guess we can encourage one another when we get the opportunity, as it makes a massive difference to that child and costs us nothing.

WHAT WOULD YOU GO BACK AND TELL YOUR YOUNGER SELF, TO ENCOURAGE SELF-ESTEEM AND SELF-LOVE?
Nothing, I had so much reinforcement growing up, it was such a blessing growing up with my foster mom. It was the best thing to happen to me.

WHERE DO YOU THINK THE NEED TO COMPETE WITH OTHER WOMEN COMES FROM? IS IT TAUGHT?
In my opinion I believe the need to compete with other women comes from men… they always psychologically and verbally put us against one another, as if it is an actual competition. Making us feel another female is doing something better than us. So yes I believe it’s taught.

WHY IS THE TRIBE MOVEMENT IMPORTANT?
THE TRIBE movement is important, as it allows us women to feel free to express ourselves and not suffer any judgement, also allows us to be who we really are, and that is a super positive attribute, as it enhances our life as a whole!

HOW ARE YOU TRYING TO KEEP YOUR SELF-ESTEEM UP IN THE MIDST OF THIS GLOBAL PANDEMIC AND WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO OTHERS READING THIS?
Whew, this has been a roller coaster of emotions, I am generally a calm laid back type of girl coming from the Caribbean, I kinda allow my moods to flow, I believe in that a lot, so when I feel low, I ride my wave until it’s over, in the meantime, I listen to upbeat easy flowing music, I sleep, and I also have some inspirational videos I watch on youtube religiously, it helps me stay on track as best as I can amidst the chaos, and keeps my mindset where it needs to be. My advice to others would be just that, find a way to quiet your mind, this takes a while, so keep practicing, also take time for yourself, whenever you feel a need to, ask for help with obligations and take that time, it will make a huge difference.
