HOW DID YOU IDENTIFY YOUR PASSION AND THE WORK THAT SATISFIED YOU VERSUS WORK THAT JUST PAID THE BILLS?

I think it’s important to dig deep and find what really touches your soul. Until you do, you will always have that constant feeling of need. When that feeling of need goes away, you truly have found what makes you happy. My favourite quote to help me a long the way and is hung all around me to see daily is “Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire”. I found that I enjoyed eating healthy and working out and being positive not only to me, but to everyone around. All it takes sometimes is someone to see your progress and motivation and before you know it, everyone behind you is on the same path. It’s an amazing feeling knowing that you can be such an impact.

WHO WILL ETERNALLY BE A WOMAN YOU ADMIRE AND RESPECT, AND WHY?

My grandmother. Her warmth, her grace, love and praise. She is dearly missed.

IN LIGHT OF YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF OUR HASHTAG #WHYITRIBE, WHY DO YOU THINK IT IS IMPORTANT TO CELEBRATE WHO WE ALREADY ARE TODAY?

Without the celebration of who we are today, you wouldn’t recognize who you were before, or who you will be in the future. I am learning this process quite well through the past year. We are going to have some struggles, and we are going to fall and that is okay. But when you get back up and you accomplish something, you celebrate, because you became stronger than you were in that last moment. You keep pushing daily and before you know it, you are ALWAYS celebrating!

NAME A TIME RECENTLY WHEN YOU SAID SOMETHING GOOD ABOUT YOURSELF/HOW DID THAT MAKE YOU FEEL?

I’ve struggled this summer, with a fractured foot, then surgery on my foot which is still in healing process, and then I was hospitalized for diverticulitis this past week. I literally felt like I was falling into that deep dark hole I may not be able to crawl out of. But yesterday I told myself all day long that I was not going to let this affect me. That I have overcome many struggles in the past. I went home that day, meal prepped so that I can start back on my healthy habits, downloaded some apps to get me working out again at home so that I can slowly get back to where I was a couple of months ago. I woke up this morning, did my hair, put on makeup and came to work with a smile on my face that showed everyone just how much better I was feeling. All it takes sometimes is some deep convincing to yourself that you are better than that negativity weighing on you and follow through. I feel so good today.

WHY DO YOU THINK WOMEN SHY AWAY FROM CELEBRATING OR PRAISING THEMSELVES SO MUCH?

I think that there are expectations of women, and if it’s expected of you why should you be praised for it? But that is so early 1900’s. Women carry so much more on their shoulders than they ever did before and there should be celebration and praise.

HOW DO YOU OVERCOME THE TENDENCY TO DISCREDIT COMPLIMENTS YOU ARE GIVEN?

I struggle with this daily, because I instantly want to compliment them back and take away the light from myself. Truth is, we all deserve the compliments, so I just remind myself to smile and say thank you, and typically I do compliment back. I just cannot go without saying something to make them smile back at me.

HOW DOES SOCIETY REINFORCE THE IDEA THAT WE, AS WOMEN, ARE NOT ENOUGH AND HOW CAN WE TAKE THAT POWER BACK?

If we all came together and became one rather than separating ourselves and judging one another, we would have all the power in the world!

WHY IS THE TRIBE MOVEMENT IMPORTANT?

It’s encouraging woman to be themselves, love themselves for who they are and to help empower others around them. Women empowering women.
