HOW DID YOU IDENTIFY YOUR PASSION AND THE WORK THAT SATISFIED YOU VERSUS WORK THAT JUST PAID THE BILLS?

Before starting my career, I used to spend time sewing just because I liked it. I have always enjoyed being creative, doing things with my hands and looking different from everybody else. I just realized that fashion design is my passion because I couldn’t see myself doing something different.

WHO WILL ETERNALLY BE A WOMAN YOU ADMIRE AND RESPECT, AND WHY?

I have to say my mom! For me, she is an example of how strong and empowered a woman can be. Always showing us that everything is possible even in hard circumstances, always fighting for my sister and I, able to do anything for us and giving us the tools to become good human beings. She is a person who enjoys giving to others. For me, she is an admirable person who I respect and love!

IN LIGHT OF YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF OUR HASHTAG #WHYITRIBE, WHY DO YOU THINK IT IS IMPORTANT TO CELEBRATE WHO WE ALREADY ARE TODAY?

I believe today is the correct time! We don’t know when is the last day in our lives, We can not wait to celebrate what we are doing, what we love and what we enjoy, because we don’t know if tomorrow we will be here. For me, it does not matter if what you love the most is your work or spending time with your family, but whatever it is, understanding that right here and right now is the time will lead us to happiness and success as women.

NAME A TIME RECENTLY WHEN YOU SAID SOMETHING GOOD ABOUT YOURSELF/HOW DID THAT MAKE YOU FEEL?

To be honest, when I was young I didn’t do it. This is something that I have been trying to do lately. At the beginning it felt a bit strange, probably because it was something new, but soon I noticed that it is good and actually I deserve it. Even though I believe there is a thin line between being egocentric and saying good things about yourself, nowadays I try to say something good about myself every time I feel insecure, it brings me back myself confidence.

WHY DO YOU THINK WOMEN SHY AWAY FROM CELEBRATING OR PRAISING THEMSELVES SO MUCH?

This could be something cultural, for example in my culture, Mexican women play an important role in society but in many cases we are not seen as equals to men, especially in power positions.
Sometimes this sentiment is reinforced by women as well. Over time it has been changing, but there is still a way to walk. This is why we have to support each other and celebrate each other like THE TRIBE is doing. We must believe how valuable we are.

HOW DO YOU OVERCOME THE TENDENCY TO DISCREDIT COMPLIMENTS YOU ARE GIVEN?

I am still in this process. I think believing in yourself is the key. I usually remind myself of my achievements, the small and big ones. Then, after keeping this in mind, I believe and accept the compliments given to me. We are strong, we are capable, and we deserve it.
