WHYITRIBE (THE REASON YOU THINK IT’S IMPORTANT TO CELEBRATE WHO YOU ALREADY ARE):

The #WhyITribe community is infinitely important. Knowing there is a community of women that are willing to be vulnerable, authentic, and supportive is essential in celebrating the “I” then the “we.” Through my experience in coaching I see the best results when clients breakthrough in honoring oneself. Once we celebrate our love of self, we are then naturally capable of supporting others effectively. I feel celebrating oneself is the essential building block in being able to love another in romance, friendship, and being a leader. So let’s re-focus on complete love of self then continue the energy to our #tribes.

NAME A TIME RECENTLY WHEN YOU SAID SOMETHING GOOD ABOUT YOURSELF / HOW DID THAT MAKE YOU FEEL?

For a formative portion of my teens and through my twenties I allowed the Zeitgeist of how men see beauty define my own confidence, which allowed me to feel less than because of an illness where my hair fell out in clumps and never regained the hair follicles. I let nasty name calling and stranger’s ideas of beauty to take over my headspace – which ultimately was destructive. I actively took back my power, prowess of self, and embraced my short hair identity, which opened my life in the most valued of ways. Short hair, don’t care! Recently I received a compliment about my confidence of self and how I carry myself with compassion and kindness. I accepted the compliment and honored the place that I am today – full love of self. Nothing feels better than the love of self! I then love to honor those around me!

WHY DO YOU THINK WOMEN SHY AWAY FROM CELEBRATING OR PRAISING THEMSELVES SO MUCH?

Women have been placed under a microscope for decades to the Zeitgeist standard of beauty and conduct (skinny, long hair, perfectionist). This current movement of accepting ourselves in all arenas of life has aggregated change against our Zeitgeist of beauty and work standards. We are creating a new narrative for our Zeitgeist to not define beauty with standards and instead celebrate individuality so we, as women, will celebrate ourselves with limitless love! I encourage women to engage in self-care through various mediums – dance classes, yoga, meditation, hiking, boxing, and art classes. I love gathering my friends together to honor our victories and tap into the celebrations that make the fabric of life infinitely special.

HOW DO YOU OVERCOME THE TENDENCY TO DISCREDIT COMPLIMENTS YOU ARE GIVEN?

This is a topic I work through with my coaching clients on a daily basis and I want for this to change! I actively decided to start accepting compliments when I fully embraced myself – not what the Zeitgeist tells us to be as women. We need to accept ourselves in order to embrace compliments from others. I recommend placing complimentary notes to yourself on your vanity mirror, stating morning mantras, and going to that happy place when all feels blissful to connect with the positivity received from others. We are allowed to be complimented and accept the gesture! Let the process of receiving a compliment become natural!

HOW DOES SOCIETY REINFORCE THE IDEA WE ARE NOT ENOUGH AND HOW CAN WE TAKE THAT POWER BACK?

I personally feel that the Women’s March on January 21st, 2017, proved to the world how women organize in masses (2.6 million strong) and accomplish peaceful protest through rhetoric. This is OUR defining year from the March. We are currently being unified through using our voices against the atrocities that have taken place in the entertainment industry and other fields. We are powerful in numbers – this momentum continues into 2018 and beyond. Our voices will not be silenced and we are paving the way as we cultivate continued dialogue for change in all arenas for women.

WHY IS THE TRIBE MOVEMENT IMPORTANT?

#WhyITribe is a vital movement in the current climate as women have the power to aggregate change in an impactful way by supporting one another. We need communities like #WhyITribe to foster togetherness so women know there is room for EVERYONE at the table! I have always been a proponent for the greater good and the idea behind the Tribe movement is to honor individuality. I believe that when we honor ourselves we are fully capable of honoring others and creating a community of collaborators. I work with my clients to cultivate their own divine gifts, be strong in self, so that they can then be present to help others. TOGETHER, WE RUN THE WORLD!
