WHYITRIBE (THE REASON YOU THINK IT’S IMPORTANT TO CELEBRATE WHO YOU ALREADY ARE):

It is important to celebrate who we are, because no one but you can do you. Your gifts are your unique MEDICINE that the world desperately needs. It is CRITICAL that each of us owns our superpowers in service to the world and embraces the badass goddesses that we are.

NAME A TIME RECENTLY WHEN YOU SAID SOMETHING GOOD ABOUT YOURSELF / HOW DID THAT MAKE YOU FEEL?

I recently looked a mentor that I desired to work with straight in the eye and said: “I’m a diamond. You MUST work with me.” I didn’t blink an eye. My voice didn’t waiver. It felt fucking FABULOUS.

WHY DO YOU THINK WOMEN SHY AWAY FROM CELEBRATING OR PRAISING THEMSELVES SO MUCH?

Women tend to shy away from compliments given because they have been conditioned by society that doing so makes them better, kinder, more desirable etc. We have placed an absurd amount of value on humility in a manner that has led to self-deprecation and the inability to let the helicopter land (receive a compliment simply by saying ‘thank you’). Owning one’s badassery by simply receiving and reveling in a great compliment is so key moving forward as more deeply empowered women. I have overcome this through a practice of not only offering gratitude for the compliment, but going a step further and AFFIRMING it.

EXAMPLE:

“You’re funny”

“I totally AM! Thank you for noticing!”

WHY DO YOU THINK WOMEN SHY AWAY FROM CELEBRATING OR PRAISING THEMSELVES SO MUCH?

Simple…because women have been rewarded for centuries for DOWNPLAYING themselves, for brushing off compliments etc. We have been taught that celebrating ourselves means we are not gracious. Humility has been ridiculously overglorified. One can be kind but celebrate her oneness and her infinite feminine power.

Hilary Clinton is an INCREDIBLE example of a woman who OWNS her power. Her loss furthers the MYTH that it is not wise or advantageous to one’s career to celebrate yourself too much and/or be unapologetically in your POWER.

HOW DO YOU OVERCOME THE TENDENCY TO DISCREDIT COMPLIMENTS YOU ARE GIVEN?

I visualize the compliment as a helicopter that MUST land to serve the world. We’re talking UBER critical that it lands. As I hold that visual, I say two words “thank you.”

HOW DOES SOCIETY REINFORCE THE IDEA WE ARE NOT ENOUGH AND HOW CAN WE TAKE THAT POWER BACK?

Society reinforces that we are not enough in millions of ways in words, imagery, pay scales and beyond. It is up to us as individuals to claim our power, and to then create a ripple effect of change by never EVER shaming another woman for standing in her power. And also by taking inspired action every day to support one other as women.

WHY IS THE TRIBE MOVEMENT IMPORTANT?

You boldly, bravely, colorfully, artistically, and unapologetically STAND for women coming into their power and using their voices.

Occupation: CEO of Living with Purpose Media; I'm a woman unapologetically moving and raising MILLIONS. I am a producer (Broadway and film), soon to be author, and success coach/aka Bad Ass Fairy Godmother.
