WHYITRIBE (THE REASON YOU THINK IT’S IMPORTANT TO CELEBRATE WHO YOU ALREADY ARE):

Women are constantly fighting for equality in this world while juggling many responsibilities: we are mothers, caretakers, educators, partners, bosses, employees and more. Instead of helping and supporting each other too many of us are competing with other women. That shouldn’t be necessary. In the words of Gandhi: “You should be the change you want to see in the world.”

NAME A TIME RECENTLY WHEN YOU SAID SOMETHING GOOD ABOUT YOURSELF / HOW DID THAT MAKE YOU FEEL?

Recently I have decided to start planning my own creative project. It is something I’ve been wanting to do for quite some time now, but as a mother (and for many others too) it is much safer to walk the road you already know well. This time I chose a different path. And I’m proud of it.

WHY DO YOU THINK WOMEN SHY AWAY FROM CELEBRATING OR PRAISING THEMSELVES SO MUCH?

We worry too much. About what we should have done better, about what others might think of us, about our looks, about tomorrow. I know many women who beat themselves up for every small mistake they make and forget to celebrate victory. Why not embrace ourselves fully? We should appreciate the challenges and bumps in our lives as experiences – and celebrate each and every one we overcome.

HOW DO YOU OVERCOME THE TENDENCY TO DISCREDIT COMPLIMENTS YOU ARE GIVEN?

I smile before I answer, so I have time to think about what I’m going to say. Slowly but surely I’m getting better at it.

HOW DOES SOCIETY REINFORCE THE IDEA WE ARE NOT ENOUGH AND HOW CAN WE TAKE THAT POWER BACK?

We cannot blame things on society as if we aren’t part of it. We shouldn’t be depending on others for recognition. Every time we point a finger at society or men we degrade ourselves. Let us believe in ourselves, be proud of who we are and what we stand for. We are here to learn and grow.

WHY IS THE TRIBE MOVEMENT IMPORTANT?

There are women everywhere who need moral support, advice and friendship. THE TRIBE provides all that, and more. By Tribing we are setting the example for younger generations. It gives us the possibility to reflect on our lives, to learn from each other and inspire our children. I’ve posted a message for my four-year-old daughter, saying I want to give her a kind world, filled with adventures and great people. A world in which she can wander around without fear. But most of all I want her to be herself. THE TRIBE contributes to the world she will live in long after I am gone.
