WHY DO YOU THINK WOMEN SHY AWAY FROM CELEBRATING OR PRAISING THEMSELVES SO MUCH? HOW DOES SOCIETY REINFORCE THE IDEA WE ARE NOT ENOUGH AND HOW CAN WE TAKE THAT POWER BACK?

A lot of what happens in society is (unfortunately) based on human biology. Women have historically been communal, have known that for our survival we’ve had to be a part of a tribe. And that meant not ruffling any feathers or standing out. It also meant relying on a man. What’s so amazing about where we are today–and what THE TRIBE is communicating so incredibly well–is that we’ve each got the ability to be bold and authentic and STILL fit into this community of sisters. It’s an “all boats rise” situation. Our mothers didn’t have this. Their mothers either. So we should be sure not to squander this moment. We should strive each day to make our tribe proud.

HOW DO YOU OVERCOME THE TENDENCY TO DISCREDIT COMPLIMENTS YOU ARE GIVEN?

I’m a confident woman. When someone gives me a compliment, I nod. I don’t even say “thank you” because I know I’ve earned every scrap of what I have.
