WHYITRIBE (THE REASON YOU THINK IT’S IMPORTANT TO CELEBRATE WHO YOU ALREADY ARE):

Sometimes even among the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives it’s easy to feel completely alone. But when there’s a tribe that embraces you wholeheartedly, there’s an awakening that takes place in your soul. A surge of energy that reminds you there’s a special purpose for your existence and you better rock it and start living life.

NAME A TIME RECENTLY WHEN YOU SAID SOMETHING GOOD ABOUT YOURSELF / HOW DID THAT MAKE YOU FEEL?

I didn’t compliment myself but I actually said thank you with confidence when someone told me I looked beautiful. I usually reply with “oh I feel like a mess” or “yeh this dress works wonders on my waistline” but this time I owned it. It’s empowering to acknowledge your own beauty.

WHY DO YOU THINK WOMEN SHY AWAY FROM CELEBRATING OR PRAISING THEMSELVES SO MUCH?

There’s such a negative stigma around confident women – there goes Miss Bossy, oh she’s such a diva! When men acknowledge themselves though and present themselves with confidence they’re told they have leadership skills and they have that real swag. Society forces women to refrain from celebrating ourselves for fear we’ll be judged.

HOW DO YOU OVERCOME THE TENDENCY TO DISCREDIT COMPLIMENTS YOU ARE GIVEN?

Ok, this is a hard one. Overcoming the tendency to discredit compliments I get is definitely a work in progress! As I mentioned earlier I did manage to say thank you recently to a compliment ( seriously giving myself a high-five right now lol). I think for me I try to remind myself that my daughter is now 7 and paying attention to everything I do so I can’t be a hypocrite and tell her to own it but then unconsciously put myself down. My kids push me to be a stronger woman.

How does society reinforce the idea we are not enough and how can we take that power back?

Everywhere you turn there’s a woman being questioned and labelled and judged by someone. The tabloids, the news, social media, corporate bosses, the sleaze bag at your gym! I mean America just elected a President that disrespects women openly and faces no consequences. If that doesn’t scream we don’t bloody care about women, I don’t know what does! Women have got to stand united and start empowering each other instead of viewing each other as competition. Don’t discredit another woman for doing something good, celebrate her! Celebrate yourself too! We are the primary educators of the next generation so everything we do, the actions we take, the air we breathe, has a direct result on the world. Make each step count ladies! You got this.

WHY IS THE TRIBE MOVEMENT IMPORTANT?

Have you noticed boxers go into the ring alone, throw the punches with their own fists, but right behind them stands a tribe. This tribe is ready to offer advice, clean the blood from his wounds and tell him to keep going. That’s exactly what THE TRIBE movement is, a team in your corner. When the going gets tough we all need reminders we’re not alone, we have to keep pushing forward. Sisterhood is the greatest resolution of our time.
