WHYITRIBE (THE REASON YOU THINK IT’S IMPORTANT TO CELEBRATE WHO YOU ALREADY ARE):

Self-awareness, self-alchemy and self-love are so so vital to living in your highest truth. What this means is living from a place of honesty, of love, of feeling and being. Being who you are is a privilege. If you have the ability to live in your skin, make the most of it!

Women especially are taught to be ashamed of our bodies, of our voice, of what makes us feel alive- and when we’re taught this we’re inherently taught that other women are our enemies. By learning to love ourselves, by being proud of the stories we carry in our souls and our skin, we are also taught to celebrate other women. When we love ourselves we’re giving ourselves permission to love others too. To make changes outside of yourself in the world, you have to start within, in your own universe.

NAME A TIME RECENTLY WHEN YOU SAID SOMETHING GOOD ABOUT YOURSELF / HOW DID THAT MAKE YOU FEEL?

Honestly, over the past year I’ve grown to love myself. I try and say something positive to myself daily, but I recognized my own beauty last week after a bath and it was really intense! Recognizing the divine in me is always a lot, and calling myself beautiful made me feel beautiful! It made me feel alive and divine.

WHY DO YOU THINK WOMEN SHY AWAY FROM CELEBRATING OR PRAISING THEMSELVES SO MUCH?

I think this is because we’re taught that if you’re proud of who you are that you’re conceited. Women who are confident are called whores, bitches, divas, sluts…etc. The list is so long! I think this is because when we celebrate ourselves we’re reclaiming our power. Once you know your own worth, no one can take that away from you. You’re no longer looking for external validation, instead your validation comes from intrinsically knowing who you are. And owning this, owning your voice, knowing your value and claiming it is not easy work! When you’re not taught this, it’s much harder to learn it. But as we awaken in consciousness, so does our power. The shift is happening, finally!

HOW DO YOU OVERCOME THE TENDENCY TO DISCREDIT COMPLIMENTS YOU ARE GIVEN?

You know, I’m still learning this! Because even though I know I am beautiful, capable, strong…etc, whenever someone else tells me this, I still feel the deep sense that they’re lying to me. And I think this is a habit! It’s an intrinsic one that we don’t notice, but a habit nonetheless. I’m learning to overcome this by complimenting myself, by breathing in and saying THANK YOU instead of making up an excuse discrediting the compliment.

By looking at the value I have that isn’t something other people can see- when I recognize my soul’s beauty and my spirit’s strength, it gets easier recognizing other people’s compliments as well.

HOW DOES SOCIETY REINFORCE THE IDEA WE ARE NOT ENOUGH AND HOW CAN WE TAKE THAT POWER BACK?

Society feeds us these lies that you have to look, act and be a certain way to be beautiful. And I say FUCK THAT in response. Because every part of who you are- no matter how you look or how you were born- is beautiful. Your wild, your anger, your pain, your trauma, your hurt, your sexuality are all inherently beautiful. Recognizing your so-called imperfections as talismans of who you are is taking that power back. Learning to love yourself for who you are is taking that power back. Working towards a more representative, transparent and ethical future is taking that back. Using your voice to raise awareness of inequality is taking that power back. Screaming that OFCOURSE you’re enough is taking that power back. We are all mirrors for one another- reflect what you want to see.

WHY IS THE TRIBE MOVEMENT IMPORTANT?

This movement is everything I love! Women//femmes, empowerment, inherent beauty, and creatures from all walks of life. We were never meant to walk this path alone. Those who march alongside us take little pieces of our pain so we aren’t responsible for holding it all ourselves. Having the support of THE TRIBE is vital.
